The place
Former Benedictine abbey of Lavaudieu (11th century), in Haute-Loire, famous for its Romanesque cloister, one of the few preserved in Auvergne. The abbey is classified and listed as a historic monument. The monastery, occupied by a community of nuns, was under the abbey of La Chaise-Dieu.
