Ancienne gendarmerie de Saint-Tropez (place Blanqui)

The place

The former gendarmerie of Saint-Tropez occupies a building on Place Blanqui, in the heart of the Var seaside resort. The edifice housed the national gendarmerie brigade of the municipality from 1879 to 2003, the year in which it was transferred to more modern facilities. Remaining disused for a few years, the building was then rehabilitated by the municipality and converted into a cultural facility. Since June 2016, it has hosted the Museum of Gendarmerie and Cinema, which traces both the history of the institution and the links between Saint-Tropez and the seventh art. A bronze statue of Brigitte Bardot, 2.5 meters tall and inspired by a drawing by Milo Manara, was installed in 2017 on the square, in front of the museum entrance.
