The place
Marseille Cathedral, built in Romanesque-Byzantine style (1893), is located on the esplanade of La Tourette, near the port. Designed by architects Henri-Jacques Espérandieu and Léon Vaudoyer, it was founded in 1852 and is classified as a minor basilica and registered as a historical monument of Neo-Byzantine architecture, Neo-Renaissance, and Neo-Roman style.
