The place
The Byblos is a luxury hotel in Saint-Tropez, on the Côte d'Azur. Conceived by the Lebanese hotelier Jean-Prosper Gay-Para — seduced, according to legend, by Brigitte Bardot — it was built starting in 1965 and inaugurated on May 27, 1967. Its name is borrowed from the ancient Phoenician port city of Byblos in Lebanon. The establishment features neo-Provençal architecture in the form of a hamlet of small interlocking buildings, blending Roman tile roofs, colorful facades, fountains, and patios. It was purchased in September 1967 by the industrialist Sylvain Floirat, who would expand it over the decades, and it also houses the legendary nightclub Les Caves du Roy, making it one of the most iconic addresses in the resort.
