The place
Department store founded by Arthur Lasenby Liberty, who opened Liberty & Co with three employees thanks to a loan of 2,000 pounds paid back in eighteen months. The Grade II listed neo-Tudor building dates from 1924 and its framework reuses wood from two ships, the HMS Hindustan and the HMS Impregnable. Associated with Art Nouveau and the Arts & Crafts movement, the store has gained a reputation as a discoverer of young creators.
