The place
Suspension bridge spanning the East River to connect Manhattan to Brooklyn, opened in 1909. Designed by Carrère & Hastings, this two-level bridge combines the functions of a railway and a vehicular bridge, and is designated a Historic Civil Engineering Landmark and a New York City Landmark, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
