The place
A nearly 3 km long road bridge connecting the mainland at La Rochelle to Île de Ré; opened in 1988, it is one of the longest bridges in France. It operates as a toll bridge. Its deck rises to 42 meters above the sea and reaches the point of Sablanceaux, at Rivedoux-Plage.
