Rialto Theatre (Times Square)

The place

Times Square Cinema, located at the corner of West 42nd Street and Seventh Avenue, opened in 1916 based on designs by Rosario Candela and Thomas W. Lamb and was for a long time the New York showcase of Paramount. Rebuilt in 1935 on a more modest scale within an office building, it was one of the first buildings in the city to make extensive use of glass bricks in its façade. Returning to theater and television in the 1980s, it was demolished in 1998 to make way for the 3 Times Square tower.
