The place
The Victoria Falls Hotel is a historic luxury hotel located in the town of Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, in immediate proximity to the falls of the same name. Inaugurated in 1904 in an Edwardian style, it was built to host travelers of the Rhodesia Railways line, which was part of the railway project "from Cape to Cairo" initiated by Cecil Rhodes. From its terrace, the hotel overlooks the Second Gorge of the Zambezi and offers a view of the Victoria Falls Bridge. Nicknamed "the grand lady" of the region for its age and prestige, it has hosted royal visitors and significant political conferences in the history of Central Africa over the decades. It is now a member of The Leading Hotels of the World.
