View Point Inn

The place

The View Point Inn is a historic lodge in Corbett, Oregon, perched along the Historic Columbia River Highway and overlooking the Columbia River Gorge, after which it is named. Built in 1924 according to the plans of Portland architect Carl L. Linde, it was originally operated as a pavilion and tea room before being renamed View Point Inn in 1927 by William Moessner, a chef trained in Germany, who served fine cuisine to a distinguished clientele. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places on February 28, 1985. In July 2011, a fire ravaged the second floor; the establishment, whose insurance had expired, remained vacant before restoration plans were initiated.
