The place
Built from 1914 on Biscayne Bay as the winter residence of the Deering family, this house designed by architect F. Burrall Hoffman combines Neo-Renaissance architecture and Mediterranean Renaissance style. Now a house museum open to the public, surrounded by gardens classified as a botanical garden, it is today a National Historic Landmark and listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
