Farmland between Kunariya and Kotay
Kunariya, India
The scene : This is where Champaner, the village of Bhuvan, stood. The team learns cricket on its training ground here, then faces Captain Russell's eleven for three days, under the watchful eyes of thousands of kutchi extras stationed on the hills. Bhuvan and Gauri also sing "O ri chori" on the village hill.
Vijay Vilas Palace (Mandvi)
Mandvi, India
Summer palace of the rulers of Kutch, built of red sandstone in the middle of a domain of about 450 acres, by the sea near Mandvi. Part of it now hosts a hotel, with rooms and air-conditioned tents set up on its private beach. Hindi cinema often returns here: it is also seen in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999).
The scene : The palace serves as the British encampment, the residence where Captain Russell and his sister Elizabeth live. Elizabeth sings her part of "O ri chori" there.
Prague Mahal
Bhuj, India
Palace built in the 1860s for King Pragmalji, based on plans by Colonel Henry Saint Clair Wilkins, in an Italian Gothic style. It adjoins the Aina Mahal, in old Bhuj. Damaged by the earthquake of 2001 and then restored, it is open for visits again: the large halls contain tiger skins, and one can climb to the top of its bell tower, which is 150 feet (about 46 m) high, dominating the entire city.
The scene : Russell is summoned by his superiors: his bet with the villagers worries them, and they warn him against this cricket match.
