Ramoji Film City

Hyderabad, India

Presented as the largest film studio complex in the world (Guinness record from 2005), Ramoji Film City spans approximately 1,666 acres to the east of Hyderabad; its permanent sets have notably served for both parts of Baahubali.

The scene : Main set of the film: the production designer Sabu Cyril reconstructed Delhi in the 1920s here, the setting for a fifty-day action block filmed mostly at night. The complex also hosted the second shooting block in January 2019, two key sequences and a song with Rama Rao and Ram Charan in November 2019, as well as an immense set erected for a song featuring Ram Charan and Alia Bhatt; several sources place the heroes' introduction and the climax here.

Kyiv, Ukraine

The official residence of the President of Ukraine, the Mariinskyi Palace is an 18th-century Baroque building located in the Pechersk district of Kyiv, adjacent to the Ukrainian parliament.

The scene : In the midst of a colonial reception, Bheem and Raju engage in a fiery dance duel to "Naatu Naatu" to impress Jenny and outshine their British hosts; the sequence features around 300 extras in period costumes, about fifty dancers, and an orchestra, all under pavilions and lanterns built for the occasion.

Novi Petrivtsi, Ukraine

The former residence of Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych, the Mezhyhirya estate, located north of Kyiv, was opened to the public as a park after his escape in 2014.

The scene : Several sources cite the former presidential estate of Mezhyhirya among the locations for the Ukrainian shoot in August 2021, without specifying which scenes were filmed there.

Hurivshchyna, Ukraine

A 36-hectare studio located in Hurivshchyna, west of Kyiv, recognizable by its castle-shaped entrance; it has ten stages, the largest of which is 2,500 m².

The scene : Outdoor sets replicating those of Ramoji (village, old town, prison, lake, river, field) were constructed to complete the scenes for the British actors, including Ray Stevenson, who were unable to travel to India for filming due to Covid-19 restrictions.

Amsterdam, Netherlands

The scene : Several sources cite Amsterdam as one of the filming locations without specifying the scenes; one reports that the crew worked there during the second wave of Covid-19, taking extra precautions.

Hyderabad, India

The scene : It is in this former aluminum factory in Hyderabad, converted into a production space, that the main shooting began on November 19, 2018: the sets for the opening scenes were filmed there for about twenty days, and the sources also locate key scenes with Ram Charan and Rama Rao as well as part of the climax.

Gandipet, India

The scene : An entire village was recreated as a set in Gandipet, by the Osman Sagar reservoir, for sequences filmed during the resumption after the lockdown in 2020; the crew also filmed outdoors there.

Siddhpur, India

Siddhpur, in the Patan district (Gujarat), is known for the colorful homes of the Dawoodi Bohra community, built between 1820 and 1930, which earns it the nickname "Paris of Gujarat."

The scene : The city lent its period streets to the film; the director of photography K. K. Senthil Kumar describes it as an untouched place, without the sources specifying the scenes that were shot there.

Mahabaleshwar, India

An old mountain station from the British era, Mahabaleshwar served as the summer capital of the Bombay Presidency.

The scene : After the long action block in Hyderabad, the team wrapped up a short shoot with the two heroes in five days, between late November and early December 2020.

Sofia, Bulgaria

The scene : A large portion of the action scenes featuring N. T. Rama Rao Jr. was filmed in Sofia, including his entrance: Komaram Bheem facing a tiger in the heart of the jungle, a sequence later enhanced with digital effects. Sources mention a forest and a studio, without naming them.

Vadodara, India

The scene : Rama Rao, Ram Charan, and Rajamouli completed an intense ten-day shooting block there in March 2019.

Araku Valley, India

The scene : Part of the film was shot in the Araku Valley, according to the film's production history, which does not specify the scenes.

Paderu, India

The scene : In December 2019, N. T. Rama Rao Jr. shot a sequence for five days in the forest area of the Modakondamma temple, on the road from Paderu to Araku.

Vikarabad, India

The scene : In January 2020, Ram Charan started his scenes in the Vikarabad forest reserve, with an entire week of night shooting.

Delhi, India

The scene : Screen Daily lists Delhi among the locations for additional sequences, without specifying which ones; the colonial Delhi of the story has, however, been reconstructed in the studio at Ramoji.
