The scene : This village of fewer than 1,500 inhabitants in Vermont serves as Winter River, the small town in Connecticut where the entire film takes place: the exteriors were filmed from one end to the other of the main street.

The scene : The general store on Main Street becomes Maitland Hardware, the hardware store run by Adam: it's the last stop for Barbara and him on their way back, a few minutes before the bridge accident. The building adjoins the East Corinth Congregational Church, which can be seen in the background.

The scene : At the end of Jewell Lane, on the hill overlooking the village, a house set built for the film: the home of Adam and Barbara Maitland, which the Deetz are redecorating to their taste after the couple's death. This is where the "Day-O" dinner and Lydia's forced marriage to Betelgeuse take place. Only a facade was constructed; it was demolished at the end of filming.

The original covered bridge disappeared after 1988, replaced by a two-lane road; the one seen on screen is a set reconstructed on site.
The scene : It is here, at the intersection of Chicken Farm Road and Village Road, that Adam and Barbara leave the road: their car tumbles off the bridge into the creek below, and the couple loses their lives there. The actual bridge is not covered — the red hood that gives it the appearance of a covered bridge from Vermont was a set built for the film, dismantled at the end of the shoot.

The scene : The interiors of the film come from the Culver City studios: the waiting room of the Neitherworld, where Adam and Barbara, freshly deceased, meet Juno, their social worker; the interiors of the 'Day-O' diner; and the final waiting room, where Betelgeuse takes his ticket after being swallowed by the sandworm.
