The scene : Other exterior scenes were filmed at Campo della Pietra, near the Sanctuary of the Santissima Trinità, in the Simbruini Mountains Regional Park where the valley sequences take place. A plaque commemorates the filming there.

The scene : The waterfall scene was filmed at the Monte Gelato waterfalls, in the natural park of Treja Valley, between Rome and Viterbo.

Roma, Italy

The De Laurentiis studios, nicknamed "Dinocittà" in reference to Cinecittà, were a large film complex founded by Italian producer Dino De Laurentiis in the early 1960s. Located along the Via Pontina, about twenty kilometers south of Rome, they were among the largest and most modern in Europe at their opening, featuring five sound stages and an immense backlot. The complex hosted several major international productions, including John Huston's The Bible (1966), Barabbas, and Waterloo. Due to a lack of commercial success and a decrease in film subsidies, De Laurentiis had to part with it in the early 1970s, and the land was transferred to the Italian state in 1973. After a long period of abandonment, the site has been redeveloped and has been home to the theme park Cinecittà World since 2014.

The scene : The western village is a studio set: in the night shots at the saloon, one can see the red drapes hung behind doors and windows.

Roma, Italy

The scene : The desert scenes that open and close the film — the crossing and then Trinity's arrival at the inn — were filmed in a tuff quarry in this valley, along the current A91 highway to Fiumicino. The stagecoach station was also set up there.
