Kalkara, Malta

17th century military fort guarding the southern entrance of the Grand Harbor in Valletta, Malta; managed by the Malta Film Commission, it also appears as King's Landing (Red Keep) in Game of Thrones. Built in 1670, it has also served as a fort and a hospital.

The scene : The streets and the large square of Troy were built on a four-hectare plot inside the fort, at the very location where the Colosseum of Gladiator once stood.

Wild bay with red clay on the northwest coast of Malta, adjacent to Golden Bay (Ir-Ramla tal-Mixquqa).

The scene : Achilles and the Greeks land on the shores of Troy, filmed in this bay on the north-west coast, adjacent to Golden Bay.

The scene : The ruins of the temple of "Phtie", where Achilles and Patroclus train with swords when Ulysses comes to enlist them, were built on the cliff.

Seaside resort at the southern tip of the Baja California Peninsula, in Mexico.

The scene : The large beach scenes as well as the wall and gates of Troy were filmed at the southern tip of Baja California; the set of the gates, damaged by Hurricane Marty, had to be rebuilt before the final fight between Achilles and Hector.

Cabo San Lucas, Mexico

Beach of the "old lighthouse" (Faro Viejo), to the west of Cabo San Lucas, in Baja California Sur.

The scene : The Greek seaside camp was filmed on this beach, a few kilometers west of Cabo San Lucas.

Shepperton, United Kingdom

Historic film studios of Surrey, in west London.

The scene : The interior sets, including the palace of Troy, were built there; the wooden horse (actually made of steel and fiberglass, standing 12 meters high) was manufactured and then shipped to Malta in sections.

Kalkara, Malta

Maltese studios renowned for their immense horizon tank pools, among the largest in Europe for water shoots. They were created in 1963.

The scene : A part of the production used the pools and stages of the studios in Malta.
