Wallilabou Bay

The place

Wallilabou Bay is a small sheltered bay on the leeward coast (Caribbean side) of northwest Saint Vincent, the main island of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, located a few kilometers north of the town of Barrouallie. It marks the mouth of the Wallilabou River, which originates in the Grand Bonhomme mountains in the center of the island and flows down to the Caribbean Sea; a little upstream are the Wallilabou Falls, accessible from the Leeward Highway. A naturally protected anchorage, the bay has long served as a stopover for coastal vessels and remains frequented by local sailing boats and fishermen. Its surroundings still retain stone remnants from the colonial era and plantations, evidence of its former role as a loading cove along the island's west coast. The site is now developed as a heritage park (Wallilabou Heritage Park).
