Zagreb, Croatia
Pavilion No. 36 of the Zagreb Fair, completed in 1957 according to the designs of Božidar Rašica, one of the fathers of Croatian modernism and a member of the EXAT 51 group. A large volume of steel and glass, its double-level roof is suspended from exterior beams, freeing the interior from any support and opening it widely to light; it hosted exhibitors of mechanical engineering and heavy metallurgy.
The scene : Due to the lack of a suitable set, the production set up its studio in this hall: the bulk of the Battle of Austerlitz was re-enacted indoors, from October 12 to December 13, 1959.

The scene : On these heights north of the city were filmed the charge of Kellermann's hussars and that of Murat's cavalry — the only sequences of the battle shot outdoors.
